Mass production of lithium-ion 2170 cells begins at Gigafactory 1.

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of taking part in a modest, yet memorable way in an event at Tesla's Gigafactory 1 outside of Reno/Sparks. The event gave highlight to the first 2170 lithium-ion battery cells produced at the Gigafactory, and the first 2170 cells that will be used in Tesla’s Powerwall 2 and Powerpack 2 energy products including the upcoming Model 3.

The event was attended by investors from around the world, which was neat to have the opportunity to meet and briefly chat with some of them. Other folks in attendance included Elon, JB, JP Clausen (our esteemed GF1 VP) and others throughout the company that help make Tesla what it is today.

This special event also served as an opportunity to recognize the hard work of the Tesla team and our partners at Panasonic for the successful production of the first 2170 cells.

PS - I also got to work with our video production crew behind-the-scenes on a little fun project that everyone will get to see later this year. Stay tuned!
