I joined the Tesla Web team in 2012. Since then, our little small team that could has gone on to build some incredible digital features, and has greatly expanded upon the company's Web experience — — that is tailored for a worldwide audience in support of the mission: to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy.

We're now in a place where we need to scale our team for what's ahead of us, and I have the great privilege of being a part of the team's direct hiring process. While we're based out of Palo Alto, we are creating a team with a global presence. So, beyond finding talented and creative engineers that can wrangle code and design the unthinkable, respectively, I place value in candidates that exhibit other skills, like compassion, empathy, critical thinking, are self-motivated and have a desire for lifelong learning, in addition to sharing diverse ideas, represent different walks in Life, and have the desire to collaborate with others.

Hiring individuals that are aligned with the team's ethos, and can also push the team to the next level on both a technical and interpersonal level is critical, but it is only one part of a healthy, sustainable team dynamic equation. In other words, it's through intentional, cross-functional collaboration coupled with an interdependent, growth mindset while applying adaptive, low-friction processes that has really made our individual and collective talent shine; however, it is equally important to co-create and nurture a work environment that places value in individuals being able to safely share their experiences and ideas with one another, experiment with ideas and fail safely, and make suggestions for continued improvement. Without an inclusive and diverse work environment, no amount of good talent can sustain a team's mission, especially, one like ours at Tesla. At least, this approach is what I've been running with and cultivating to build a world-class, inclusive and innovative Web and digital product team at Tesla, which I'm excited and honored to be a part of, not to mention, grateful to my teammates and leadership for their support in doing the same.
